Il collettivo avant-garde BELL ORCHESTRE pubblica oggi un nuovo brano tratto da ‘House Music’, il disco in arrivo il 19 marzo (Erased Tapes)

Bell Orchestre, il collettivo avant-garde con membri di Arcade Fire, che sfida le classificazioni di ogni genere, pubblica oggi ‘IV:What You’re Thinking’, una nuova anticipazione tratta da ‘House Music’, l’atteso album in arrivo il 19 marzo, a dieci anni di distanza dall’ultimo lavoro, il primo su etichetta Erased Tapes.

Con ‘IV:What You’re Thinking’ Bell Orchestre mostrano nuovamente le abilità dei componenti del collettivo a suonare come singoli individui e ad amalgamarsi perfettamente in un unico flusso sonoro. Elementi di classica, di neo classica, di elettronica e di jazz sperimentale fluiscono in balia dell’improvvisazione e dell’innovazione, creando brillanti sculture sonore, ipnotiche ed oniriche.

 ‘IV:What You’re Thinking’ arriva a poche settimane dal precedente singolo, ‘V: Movement’, una chiara fotografia del disco. ‘House Music’ si svolge infatti come un unico lungo pezzo, un’improvvisazione tra strumentazione classica ed elettronica nella creazione di mondi musicali che sfidano il genere. Come riportano infatti le note di copertina, Bell Orchestre ricordano momenti in cui hanno dato vita a composizioni organicamente perfette, completamente formate, senza alcuna discussione ma in modo del tutto naturale, per poi scoprire che non erano state registrate. In ‘House Music’ Bell Orchestredecidono così di celebrare la spontaneità e gli eventi accidentali, la collaborazione e la creazione democratica. Con l’eredità di grandi che esplorano l’improvvisazione, tra cui Talk Talk, The Orb, Miles Davis ed Ennio Morrino, il collettivo canadese cattura impulsi, connessioni e la misteriosa poetica dell’invenzione musicale che avviene in tempo reale. Con l’aiuto di Hans Bernard come ingegnere del suono, la band ha esplorato ogni angolo della tenuta rurale di Sarah Neufeld (violino, voce) nel Vermont che, accompagnata dagli altri componenti della mini-orchestra (Pietro Amato, french horn, keyboards, electronics – Michael Feuerstack, pedal steel guitar, keyboards, vocals – Kaveh Nabatian, trumpet, gongoma, keyboards, vocals – Richard Reed Parry, bass, vocals e Stefan Schneider, drums) hanno suonato ognuno in una stanza diversa per due intere settimane, sperimentando, creando e isolandosi a volte anche per giorni di fila per poi ritrovarsi nelle session di improvvisazione-registrazione. Da questo processo-esperimento nasce ‘House Music’.

“If you sliced away the front wall of the house and looked in, you’d see the horn section — with so many different things going on — down on the first floor of what would normally be the living/dining room, and it was full chaos with tables and tables of kalimbas and harmonicas and synthesizers and horns. Then you travel up a floor, and there’s me and Richie in an empty, warm sounding wooden bedroom. Mike was on pedal steel in the bathroom, on the same floor as us. And then up the stairs, through the ceiling and in the attic, was Stefan, alone on drums. It’s a big piece of land, and if you went outside to take a break, you’d look over and hear all of this crazy shit coming out of all the different floors, and it filled this valley, and there were lots of rocks so the sound would bounce around. Con base a Montreal, Bell Orchestre è composto da Sarah Beufeld e Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire) a cui si aggiungono altri quattro eccellenti musicisti. Il collettivo è noto per la sua musica strumentale ed evocativa, creativa ed impossibile da catalogare. I primi due album, ‘Recording a Tape the Colour of the Light’(2005) e ‘As Seen Through Windows’ (2009) sono stati caldamente accolti dai media musicali, esaltando le doti cinematografiche ed orchestrali di Bell Orchestre.

Robert Raths, fondatore di Erased Tapes e grande fan di Bell Orchestre, è orgoglioso della nuova firma: “I remember it so vividly. There was something that made me focus in on what Richy and Sarah (and Owen for that matter) were doing, whenever I paid attention to the Arcade Fire. I remember thinking ‘damn, who are these cats on multiple instruments, drumming on motorcycle helmets and scraping violins as if there’s no tomorrow?’ There was this raw, unfiltered energy about them that had an entire force of its own.
