    DEAP VALLY annunciano ‘Marriage’, il nuovo album in arrivo il 19 novembre e pubblicano il primo singolo, ‘Magic Medicine’

    ‘Marriage’, il terzo album di Deap Vally in arrivo il 19 novembre, segue il successo di ‘Sistrionix’, l’acclamato disco di debutto del 2013, ‘Femejism’ del 2016, il disco collaborativo ‘Deap Lips’ (2020) realizzato con Flaming Lips, ed i due recenti ep digitali ‘Digital Dream’ e ‘American Cockroach’, con i feat di numerosi artisti del panorama musicale mondiale, tra cui KT Tunstall,  Jennie Vee (Eagles of Death Metal), Ayse Hassan (Savages), Jenny Lee (Warpaint), Peaches, Jamie Hince (The Kills) ed altri ancora. 

    ‘Marriage’ nasce da tutte queste collaborazioni: “Being in a band is like being in a marriage: sometimes it’s magical, sometimes it’s unbearably challenging. To reinvigorate that marriage we’ve made album three a genre-bending experiment with new collaborators and instrumentation that push the limits of what has previously defined us. MARRIAGE is our musical Rumspringa, if you will. We’re breaking free of the rigid creative constraints within which we previously existed (two members, two instruments, two voices). Writing with the calibre of musicians that we did on this record – like jennylee, KT Tunstall, Peaches, and Jennie Vee – was an unforgettable experience, and we’re so happy to have the result of our creative rebirth eternalised in MARRIAGE.” affermano Deap Vally.

    Il disco è anticipato dal singolo ‘Magic Medecine‘, un brano costruito in cinque anni. Nato nello studio di Allen Salmon a Nashville, la traccia è finita poi nello studio di Josiah Mazzaschi a Los Angeles. Inizialmente un brano sull’essere sballati di ciò che si ha (la chimica del corpo, la chimica di laboratorio, la chimica della natura), i testi hanno successivamente assunto un nuovo significato nell’era del coronavirus, un momento in cui più che mai abbiamo bisogno di una cura miracolosa per sentirsi di nuovo liberi.

    “Look Away’ took shape in a very open and spontaneous style, born out of a real-time jam with Lindsey, jennylee, and me. The lyrics began as improvised syllables, slowly taking shape into words.  The song is more of a feeling of a moment, a hazy memory” – Deap Vally

    Deap Vally annunciano ‘Digital Dream’, il nuovo ep digitale in arrivo il 26 febbraio (Cooking Vinyl/The Orchard). Anticipato dal singolo ‘Look Away’, l’ep contiene una serie di collaborazioni del duo californiano, espressione di una nuova forma di scrittura e di registrazione. Tra gli artisti che hanno preso parte a ‘Digital Dream’, Jenny Lee (Warpaint), Peaches, Zach Dawes (Last Shadow Puppets) e Jamie Hince (The Kills). L’ep è auto prodotto da Deap Vally, che hanno collaborato con l’amico di lunga data e sound engineer Josiah Mazzaschi (Jesun and Mary Chain, Idles), a differenza dei precedenti album che hanno visto Nick Zammer (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) al mixer. 

    Dibattute da anni sul continuare ad essere un duo, Deap Vally, invece di diventare un trio, hanno intrapreso una nuova strada creativa e collaborativa, incrociando le proprie esperienze musicali con gli artisti presenti in ‘Digital Dream’, cooperando anzichè commissionando. Il risultato è una rinascita per Deap Vally, molto più di quanto loro stesse si aspettassero, rompendo le precedenti abitudini e lasciandosi trasportare dal flusso creativo, aggiungendo suoni seguendo il ritmo dei brani, senza limitare alcun strumento. 

    “The Digital Dream EP was an amazing opportunity for us to remove all style barriers from our music and collaborate with some of our favorite people and artists.  The songs on this EP were composed in a purely democratic way, allowing all artists in the room to contribute, shape, and participate in their creation.  Writing these songs was about process over result, encouraging everyone to enter into potentially uncomfortable places (ie. jamming and letting go of preconceived notions of approach and genre) while feeling safe and unjudged.  True musical alchemy” – Deap Vally

    ‘Digital Dream’ segue la collaborazione con Flaming Lips nel lavoro Deap Lips, il cui omonimo album è stato pubblicato nel 2020. L’ep è il primo di una serie di lavori di Deap Vally che vedranno la luce entro l’anno.
